The 26th International Congress of Refrigeration (ICR 2023) of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) took place in Paris from 21 to 25 August 2023. The theme of the IIR Congress was "Towards efficient, controlled and smart refrigeration".
With around 1000 participants from 58 countries and 493 conference papers, the international congress ICR 2023 was the world's largest gathering of scientists, experts, technicians and professionals in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning.
The ILK Dresden was represented at the ICR 2023 by Markus Müller, Head of the Main Department Refrigeration and Heat Pumps and by the former Institute Director/Managing Director Dr Ralf Herzog (now Honorary Director of the ILK). Mr Müller gave a presentation on heat pumps, entitled: "Development of a high-temperature heat pump up to 140°C". In his IIR function, Dr. Herzog chaired the joint meeting of the IIR Commissions A1/A2 (Cryogenics) and C1 (Cryobiology, Cyomedicine).
In the opening ceremony of the Congress, on 21.08.23, Dr Ralf Herzog was honoured for his 16 years of activity and responsibility in various functions of the IIR with the MEMBER OF HONOUR award by the IIR Director General Didier Coulomb. Dr Herzog was a member of the IIR Science and Technology Council for 16 years, President of IIR Commission A1 "Cryophysics & cryoengineering", later President of Section A "Cryogenics and liquefied gases" and a member of the IIR Management Committee for 8 years. Dr Herzog will continue to be available to the IIR for certain tasks.
The International Congress of Refrigeration takes place every 4 years as the main scientific event of the IIR. The next IIR World Congress will take place in Seoul, South Korea in 2027.
